What the scheme gives you
PM-YASASVI (Pre-Matric) is a Government of India scholarship, run by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, for students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and De-notified Tribes (DNT). It gives a ₹4,000-per-year academic allowance to support students in Class 9 and 10, paid directly into their bank account, so that money is not the reason a child drops out before Class 10.
One thing to be clear about
PM-YASASVI has more than one part, and people often mix them up. This scholarship is the pre-matric allowance of ₹4,000 a year for Class 9–10. The much larger amounts you may have seen — up to ₹75,000 or ₹1,25,000 a year — belong to the separate YASASVI "top class schools" scheme, which selects students through the YASASVI entrance test. If you are simply in Class 9 or 10 and from an OBC/EBC/DNT family, the ₹4,000 pre-matric scholarship on this page is the one that applies.
