Ramanujan Fellowship

The Ramanujan Fellowship supports Indian scientists and engineers abroad to conduct research in India.

Benefits

Fellows receive a monthly stipend of ₹135,000, along with an annual research grant of ₹7 lakh and ₹60,000 for overhead costs.

Eligible candidates include Indian scientists and engineers under 40 years of age who are currently working abroad. Applicants must not be income tax payers, have no family members in government service, and should come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online through the SERB portal after securing a host institution in India.

  1. Register on the SERB online portal at www.serbonline.in.
  2. Complete the Profile Details section with required information.
  3. Select the Ramanujan Fellowship scheme and fill out the nomination form.
  4. Upload a research proposal outline in a single PDF file (max 5 pages).
  5. Send the completed form to the nominator for submission.
  6. The nominator submits the nomination to SERB or returns it for revisions.
  7. Await confirmation of successful submission from SERB.
