New tax regime, FY 2026-27 (AY 2027-28) — includes the ₹75,000 standard deduction (salaried), the Section 87A rebate (nil tax up to ₹12 lakh taxable) and 4% cess. This is income tax only — it does not deduct PF, professional tax or other items, and it does not compute the old regime. Confirm with a tax professional or the Income Tax portal.

How the new regime works (FY 2026-27)

  • Income up to ₹4 lakh is tax-free; then 5% (₹4–8L), 10% (₹8–12L), 15% (₹12–16L), 20% (₹16–20L), 25% (₹20–24L) and 30% above ₹24 lakh.
  • Salaried people and pensioners get a ₹75,000 standard deduction, so tax is calculated on income after that.
  • A Section 87A rebate makes the tax nil if your taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh — so a salaried person earning up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax.
  • A 4% health and education cess is added on the tax, and a surcharge applies on incomes above ₹50 lakh.

Frequently asked questions

Is income up to ₹12 lakh really tax-free?

Under the new regime, the Section 87A rebate makes tax nil for taxable income up to ₹12 lakh. For a salaried person, adding the ₹75,000 standard deduction makes income up to ₹12.75 lakh effectively tax-free.

Does this use the new or old regime?

It uses the new regime, which is the default for FY 2026-27. The old regime (with deductions like 80C, HRA, home-loan interest) can be better for some people and is not calculated here.

What is the standard deduction?

₹75,000 for salaried individuals and pensioners under the new regime — subtracted from your income before tax is calculated.

Is this my exact take-home salary?

No. This shows income after income tax only. Your actual in-hand salary is also reduced by PF, professional tax and other deductions, which vary by employer.
