PM-KISAN: How to Apply, Complete eKYC, and Check Your ₹2,000 Installment Status

· 4 min read

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) puts ₹6,000 a year directly into the bank accounts of landholding farmer families — paid as three installments of ₹2,000 every four months through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). It is one of the largest income-support schemes in the world, and if you own cultivable land, there is a good chance you qualify.

This guide explains exactly who is eligible, how to register, and — just as importantly — the eKYC and land-seeding steps that decide whether your money actually arrives.

Who is eligible for PM-KISAN

The scheme is for landholding farmer families. A "family" here means the husband, wife, and minor children who together own cultivable land, as recorded in the land records of the state or union territory.

You are not eligible if anyone in the family falls into these excluded groups:

  • Pays income tax
  • Is, or has retired as, a government employee (with some exceptions for Group D / Class IV staff)
  • Draws a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more
  • Holds, or has held, a constitutional post
  • Is a practising professional — doctor, lawyer, engineer, chartered accountant, or architect

If none of these apply and your family owns farmland, you qualify.

How much you get and when

The benefit is ₹6,000 per year, split into three equal installments of ₹2,000, released roughly every four months (around April, August, and November–December). The money goes straight to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account — there are no middlemen at the point of payment.

For reference, the 21st installment was released on 19 November 2025. Because exact dates shift each cycle, always confirm the latest status on the official portal rather than relying on forwarded messages.

Documents you need

Keep these ready before you register:

  1. Aadhaar card (mandatory — the scheme runs entirely on Aadhaar-based identity)
  2. Bank account passbook, with the account linked to your Aadhaar
  3. Land ownership records (khasra / khatauni or equivalent)

How to apply, step by step

Step 1: Register online or at a CSC

Go to pmkisan.gov.in and open Farmers' Corner → New Farmer Registration. Enter your Aadhaar number, choose rural or urban, and fill in your state, bank, and land details. If you prefer in-person help, visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) with your documents.

Step 2: Complete Aadhaar eKYC (mandatory)

eKYC is compulsory — without it, your installments will not be released. On the portal, open eKYC under Farmers' Corner, enter your Aadhaar number, and verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. If OTP eKYC fails, biometric eKYC can be done at a CSC.

Step 3: Make sure your land records are seeded

In recent cycles the government has tightened verification. Your land details must be seeded (linked and verified) in the PM-KISAN database, and many states now also require enrolment in the Farmer Registry. Ask your local agriculture office or CSC if your land seeding is complete.

Payments only reach the bank account mapped in the NPCI Aadhaar mapper. Confirm at your bank branch that your Aadhaar is linked and DBT-enabled, or the transfer can fail even when you are approved.

How to check your installment status

  1. Visit pmkisan.gov.in
  2. Open Farmers' Corner → Know Your Status
  3. Enter your registration number or mobile number and the captcha
  4. View whether each installment has been credited

You can also use Beneficiary Status to confirm your name is on the approved list.

Why payments stop — and how to fix it

If an installment did not arrive, the cause is almost always one of these:

  • eKYC pending → complete OTP or biometric eKYC
  • Aadhaar not linked to the bank account → visit your branch and enable DBT
  • Land records not verified / not seeded → follow up with the local agriculture office
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar, bank, and land records → get the records corrected

Fixing the flagged issue usually restores payment from the next cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Is PM-KISAN only for small farmers? No. Any landholding farmer family qualifies, regardless of how much land they own — as long as no family member is in the excluded categories.

Can a husband and wife both get ₹6,000? No. The benefit is per family, not per person. A family receives ₹6,000 a year in total.

Do I have to re-apply every year? No. Once registered and verified, you keep receiving installments — but you must keep eKYC current and your records correct.

Is the money taxable? The income support is not treated as taxable income for the farmer, but income-tax payers are excluded from the scheme in the first place.
