What the scheme covers
The Gopinath Munde Shetkari Apghat Suraksha Sanugrah Anudan Yojana is Maharashtra’s accident cover for farmers. It is an ex-gratia grant — not an insurance policy, and there is no premium to pay. If a covered person dies or is permanently disabled in an accident, the government pays a fixed grant:
- ₹2,00,000 for accidental death
- ₹2,00,000 for loss of two limbs, two eyes, or one limb and one eye
- ₹1,00,000 for loss of a single limb or a single eye
Who is covered
The cover applies to registered farmers in Maharashtra whose name appears in the 7/12 land extract, and — importantly — to one family member of that farmer as well. The covered person must be between 10 and 75 years old. Because a family member is included, the scheme protects households, not just the landholder.
What counts as an accident (and what does not)
Qualifying accidents include road and vehicle accidents, drowning, snakebite, electrocution, falls, lightning strikes, and animal attacks. The scheme does not cover natural death or death from illness, suicide or self-harm, death while committing a crime, or a disability that existed before the accident. Getting the FIR, panchnama and post-mortem right is what proves the death or injury was accidental.
How to claim
Submit the claim proposal with all documents to the Taluka Agriculture Officer within 30 days of the accident. An enquiry team investigates and reports to the Tehsildar, a committee chaired by the Tehsildar decides the claim, and the grant is paid straight to the beneficiary’s bank account by ECS. Maharashtra has begun making the scheme fully digital through the MahaDBT portal, so check whether your Taluka now accepts the claim online.

How to apply
Applications must be submitted offline to the relevant Taluka Agriculture Officer with the required documents.

- A team will investigate the accident and submit a report to the Tehsildar within 8 days.
- The Taluka Agriculture Officer will review the claims and forward eligible ones to the Tehsildar.
